Why the wait is part of the trip
A study of Dutch holidaymakers (Nawijn et al., 2010, Applied Research in Quality of Life) found people were happier in the weeks before a trip than non-travellers, while the boost after returning faded quickly. Watching the countdown drop is, in a real sense, part of the holiday.
