How the count works
The calculator subtracts one calendar date from the other. It ignores the time of day and daylight-saving shifts, so a spring-forward night never turns 30 days into 29.96. Weekdays are Monday to Friday; public holidays vary by country and aren’t removed.
Month lengths differ, so “3 months” is 89 to 92 days depending on where you start. The years-months-days line counts whole months on the calendar, the way a lease or a notice period is written.
Why countdowns disagree by one day
An event 5 days away can honestly be called 4, 5 or 6 days away. Toggle the rules and watch the count change.
5 days counted · the standard way (DayTrackr, most calculators)
A clock-based timer shows 4 days 3 h, because it counts only full 24-hour blocks. Late in the evening that drops to 4 while the calendar still says 5. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions.
Questions people ask
How do you calculate the days until a date?
Subtract today’s calendar date from the target date. Tomorrow is 1 day away. DayTrackr counts the end date but not today, which is how most people and most calculators count.
Does the count include today?
Not by default. Tick “Include today” if you want an inclusive count, for example when planning “day 1 to day 30” of a challenge.
How many weekdays are left?
The weekday figure counts Monday to Friday between today and the date, excluding the end date. It does not know about public holidays, so subtract any that apply to you.
Can I count the days between two dates that are not today?
Yes. Change the “From” date. The result works for past ranges too, such as the length of a trip or a notice period.
Why does another site show one day less?
Timers that count full 24-hour blocks drop a day as soon as fewer than 24 hours per day remain. The interactive explainer on this page shows both methods.
